Who is Persephone?

According to Greek mythology, Persephone is the goddess of the underworld. Demeter, goddess of the harvest, and Zeus, ruler of the gods, are her parents. She was so stunningly beautiful that Pluto, god of Hades--the underworld, fell in love with her and one day kidnapped her.  Her mother, Demeter, wandered the earth looking for her daughter.  Eventually, the sun god, Helios, told Demeter what had occurred.  Demeter was understandably furious and withdrew from the world, leaving the earth infertile.  Zeus saw the plight of the earth and decided to send Hermes down to visit Pluto with the message that Persephone must be released immediately.  Pluto had no choice but to agree.  The god of the underworld was very devious though, and tricked Persephone by giving her a pomegranate to eat.  After she ate one of the pomegranate's seeds, Persephone was bound to the underworld forever--at least for one-third of the year.  The remaining months of the year could be spent on earth with her mother.  As a consequence, Demeter made the earth infertile during the months Persephone stayed in Hades--the winter months.

Cat and Kara hypothesize that if Persephone had daughters--no myth includes them--one might have been born during the winter months while Persephone was in Hades while the other might have been born during the summer months while she was with her mother, Demeter.  Which of us is the daughter born in the underworld and which is not depends largely on our moods!
